Today,
after over three decades of existence, Arrowhead
Stadium remains one of the finest stadiums
in the NFL. After spending several years
playing at an aging Municipal Stadium it
was time for a new stadium for both the
Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals (MLB).
Originally, in the mid 1960’s officials
planned on building a single, multipurpose
stadium. However the idea was scrapped.
Kansas City officials then decided to build
two stadiums, one for the Royals and one
for the Chiefs. This idea also called for
the world's first rolling stadium roof.
In 1967 voters approved a plan to build
the stadiums. Construction on the stadiums
began soon after. However, the rolling roof
for the stadiums was scrapped because of
project delays. |
